As I write this I am in a new country, with my family and we are exactly half way through quarantine. In the spirit of being a better human each morning I have woken and done a different workout to stave off the staleness, keep the "gainz" and just feel good about the fact I am essentially in a 2 week prison where you are unable to leave.
So what workouts have I been doing? Each has been different but as the title does suggest it has become more and more inventive. I have drawn from a few sources; Josh Bryant and his Jailhouse Strong series is certainly one. Here is a rough outline of what I have done each day:
- Shadow boxing/fighting. consisting of 1 jab, 1 right cross, 1 left elbow strike, 1 right elbow strike, 1 right knee, 1 left knee, 1 burpee for 1 min with 1 min rest, 2 min, 1 min rest, 3 min, 1 min rest, 2 min then 1 min rest, 1 min with a 1 min rest. That's 15 min. Sometimes I will stop here, other times I will twice repeat.
- Bands - I bought 3 resistance bands - small blue, medium orange and heavy red. For lower body my staples have been Bulgarian Split Squats with the band under the foot and over the opposite shoulder. I got this one from that monster - Kevin Oak. Using the red band looped over the hands and standing shoulder width apart I do Romanian deadlifts. Upper body is again dependent on your imagination. Staples are curls, tricep extensions, shoulder presses, bent over rows. Majority completed with standing on the band and then working the motion from there.
- Juarez Valley 20's - This one I got from Jailhouse Strong. Complete 20 push ups, walk 9 feet then complete 1 rep. the 9 feet denotes the size of a regular jail cell. then 19 push ups, walk 9 feet, complete 2. You continue in this fashion until you switch over - 18/3, 17/4, 16/5, 15/6 etc etc. This a good one. See if you can beat your time form the last time you did it.
- Burpees - 100. Plain and simple. I do these in blocks of 10 or 15.
