Now in the world of internet heroes and monsters posting ridiculous numbers in these lifts online day in day out these numbers don’t sound massive but this is not the point. The point here is that these numbers are achieved without drugs, whilst working full time, balancing 2 kids and a wife and training in a back room of the house at 6am every morning. I say this not to make excuses but for people to see that these things are not excuses. For me these lifts are the result of many months of hard grind and graft and whilst they are not earth shattering numbers they are achieved through sheer determination and an unbreakable will to push myself.
For people reading this the key takeaway message here is that if you really want to achieve something in the iron game the key is consistency and a will that cannot be broken. Sure there are mornings that I just do not want to get out of bed and the thought of a triple at 90% of my 1RM just seems ridiculous. However it is in that quiet moment when you reflect on it that makes you better than the other guy. It is the undeniable fact that despite all these distractions of work, family and just about everything else that life throws at you, that you can say “despite this I still got up and trained today”. It is these commitments that will see you continually post new PR’s and fulfil your true lifting potential.
